FAQ

We see you have a lot of questions, lets see if we can help.

You have a the questions. We have the answers.

Where can I find the specific blog devoted to my favorite NFL division?

To be honest, there isn’t one, at least not yet. We have always been a pretty homogeneous community.

As the regular season approaches, we will probably break out more division-specific articles into their own sections. Until that happens, though, consider trying to make friends with fans of other teams. Believe it or not, most of them are pretty cool people too. One of the things that makes this site so interesting is we’re not devoted to any one team or division.

In the meantime, we will be ramping up our efforts to publish more content. We already have our daily Black, Blue, and Ornery NFC North and Grits, Gravy, and Gumbo NFC South daily links features. If you are interested in contributing to either of them — or starting a morning links column for another division — by all means, let us know.

We are also looking for regular team beat writers in all divisions. We currently have the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, and New Orleans Saints beats covered, and we cover other teams whenever possible, but we could definitely use more help.

How do I change my avatar?

Easy. Just follow these steps:

  • Click on your blank avatar.
  • When it takes you to your profile page, hover over the  link on the top right corner of the page, and click .
  • Changes will appear instantly in most browsers. No more waiting for moderator approval.

How do I turn off email notifications?

You may have noticed that by default, Livefyre notifies you of all new comments posted on an article. On high-traffic days, this can quickly clog your email inbox. To turn off email notifications, visit your page in the same way you did when setting up your avatar. In the menu above your avatar, click on on the tab and change the settings to your liking.

How will we be able to tell who is who if people keep changing their avatars and user names?

Simply hover over people’s avatars to view their profiles. If you haven’t yet filled out your profile, visit your  page to set it up. Filling out your name (or the nickname by which you are best known) and a short bio will help everyone be able to recognize you, no matter what form your avatar and user names take.

Is there flagging on WCS?

Livefyre does offer a flagging feature. Hover over a comment you find offensive and click Flag. Be sure to provide a solid rationale for flagging the comment, though, because otherwise the moderators will simply ignore the notification. If a serious violation is occurring, the moderators are probably already aware of the situation and are taking steps to handle it.

That being said, we here at WCS are a pretty tolerant and freewheeling bunch. As the Mission Statement at the bottom of the page (you have read it, right?) puts it, WCS is a place where “uncompromising sports fans” can “express their opinions in a spirit of candor unparalleled anywhere else.” That’s what makes us who we are.

But that doesn’t mean absolutely anything goes. If things get out of hand, we aren’t afraid to take action. Examples of unacceptable behavior include:

  • Constant and repeated personal attacks
  • Extreme trolling, by which we mean words and actions that are not only designed to make people angry, but also negatively impacts their experience here in such a way that they want to leave WCS
  • Creating multiple accounts (“sockpuppets”) for the purpose of being disruptive
  • Spamming

WCS has a remarkable record of nullifying would-be trolls just by being who we are. Trolls quickly figure out they are powerless here, get bored, and drift away. It’s one of the things that makes this such an awesome community, and we’d like to keep it that way.

You really have to go out of your way to get in trouble here, so do your part and avoid abusing the freedom you enjoy. We are proud of the fact that we haven’t resorted to banning anyone in the history of our existence. Let’s not ruin what has become a fantastic place to socialize and talk sports.

What are the rules about embedding images, videos and animated GIFs?

Here at WCS we thrive on the ability to embed pictures, videos, and animated GIFs right into the comment section. We do try our best to be courteous though, so we do have the following guidelines:

  • No spam
  • No nudity
  • Nothing excessively gross, inhumane, or downright unacceptable, as determined at the sole discretion of the moderators

In other words, keep it safe for work.

Most importantly, how can I contribute to WCS?

Click the Join the Team link at the top of the page and follow the instructions posted there. We’d love to have you on our team! If you are able to make a generous contribution to help keep us running, consider making a donation. Gifts of any size are greatly appreciated.
