Legendary linebacker Derrick Brooks celebrates his 41st birthday today.

Happy Friday, folks!  Welcome to Black, Blue, and Ornery, your daily serving of NFC North news on this Friday, April 18th, 2014.

We’re only three weeks away from the NFL draft, which means there are currently than there are players who will be drafted.  This brings me to our quote of the day:

“There are as many opinions as there are experts.”
-Franlin D. Roosevelt

On this day in history:

  • 1923-Yankee Stadium first opens its doors.  The House that Ruth Built would remain the host of all home Yankees games until 2008, save for a brief window in the 1970s when it was renovated.  The NFL’s New York Giants even played there from 1956 through 1973.
  • 1924-the first book of crossword puzzles was published, and generations of old men were entertained for decades to come.
  • 1981-the longest professional baseball game in history begins in Pawtucket, Rhode Island between the Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings.  The game lasted 33 innings, 32 of which were played on April 18 (and into the morning of April 19).  Finally at 4am the game was suspended and then completed on June 23.  One of the more notable records from the game was that Dallas Williams managed to go an astounding 0 for 13, though he did draw two walks.
Actress Melissa Joan Hart celebrates her 38th birthday today.

We also have some excellent birthdays to celebrate today:

  • David Tennant (43)-actor most famous for his role as the 10th incarnation of The Doctor in BBC’s Doctor Who.  Allons-y!
  • Miguel Cabrera (31)-baseball player for the MLB’s Detroit Tigers who recently signed a record-setting 10 year, $292 million deal to hit a ball for a living.  It’s a rough life, but somebody’s gotta do it.
  • Derrick Brooks (41)-legendary linebacker for the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers who helped one of the best defenses in modern history lead the team to the 2002 Super Bowl title with the immortal Brad Johnson as their quarterback.

MKE seems different than how I remember him. he seems distant an melancholy, like someone who has been forced to turn to male prostitution to support his drug habit

I do believe I have seen this video before. It's a good channel, even when I don't agree with what they say.

Here is a great article on a similar topic, written by Joel Brodsky, one of the architects behind MS Excel and the Founder of Fog Creek Software. Joel On Software is one of my favorite sites on the web. Dude is sheerly brilliant.
