Three. That magical number after two, and before four. A number made famous by Stooges, Amigos, and Musketeers alike. And it also happens to be the number of predictions that our prognosticators got correct this past week.
Seriously, only three. That is by far the worst week that the Pantheon has experienced in a long time.
However, there is a silver lining in all of this. One of those three happened to be another correct final score prediction. That makes it 14 total on the season. Incredible!
Unfortunately, it is almost time for the Pantheon to again close its doors. But before that can happen, there is still one more game to be played. THE game. The Super Bowl.
The pinnacle of the NFL season is finally upon us, and it is up to our prognosticators to prove their mettle. This is the last chance there will be to call your shot this season, so make it count!
I know that it will be difficult, but I also know that we can do better than a measly three correct predictions. So, I am counting on you to give the Pantheon a good sendoff. Make it proud!
Now on to the game. I ask that you please use the line below to call your shots in the comments. Simply copy and paste it to the comments, and add your predicted scores after the team names. (Substitute scores for the XX and YY.)
Here is the match-up for Super Bowl XLVIII:
- Seattle Seahawks XX @ Denver Broncos YY
They say “three’s a crowd,” but that definitely doesn’t apply here.
Anyway, read on to find out just exactly who Nailed It!
These are the people who have (somehow) correctly predicted the final outcome of a game. The only shot that was called that could be considered more famous than these belongs to . Bow down before their wisdom! (And make sure you ask them for next week’s lotto numbers.)
- San Francisco @ Seattle – jmac3444 correctly predicted that the Seahawks would defeat the 49ers by a score of 23-17!
These are the ones who correctly predicted the margin by which the victors would best their competition. These are also the ones to consult if you want to bet the spread.
- San Francisco @ Seattle – FalconsFan0125 correctly predicted a six-point victory for the Seahawks.
Total combined score
These are those who somehow managed to pick the correct total score but did not have any clue in how the teams would actually get there. Still, if you want to bet an over/under, you could do worse than consulting with them.
- None this week.
Winning team’s score
- San Francisco @ Seattle – MIBearFan correctly predicted that the Seahawks would score 23 points in a victory.
Against the grain
Oftentimes, our picks will be unanimous. However, there are those who will sometimes walk their own path.
- None this week.
I would like to give a big, hearty congratulations to jmac3444. With this correct final score prediction this week, that now gives him three final score predictions on the year! That ties niemerg1 with the most correct final score predictions over the past two seasons. You have definitely earned bragging rights (again) over your brethren. Use them wisely.
I would also like to congratulate the two other people named above. You should feel proud that you are continuing to move up the leaderboard. Before you know it, we might be seeing your name on there.
To the rest of you, I just want to say: really? Only three? That’s all you could do this week? I know you can do better!
So, to the three people named above, feel free to take a bow. You all have earned the right to brag, just not to jmac3444.
Now on to the leaderboard!
You can’t keep an angry moon deity down. MIBearFan was the only person on the leaderboard to correctly call a shot this week. With that correct called shot, he pulled back into sole possession of first place with 21 entries in the Pantheon.
Will BearsSaveLives be able to overtake him with only the Super Bowl remaining? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Sitting right off are the leaderboard are four people with 12 entries, two people with 11 entries, and four more with 10 entries in the Pantheon. All it takes is an exceptional week from any one of these people this week, and they could find themselves in the final top five!
Now without further ado, here is the leaderboard through the Conference Championships (in the case of a tie, the names are arranged alphabetically):
- MIBearFan – 21 entries
- BearsSaveLives – 20 entries
- rocketman6969 – 15 entries
- jwoude23 – 14 entries
- andylet445 – 13 entries
- LambeauOrWrigley – 13 entries
If you would like to see what shots the leaders have correctly called, or perhaps to see how close you are to them, you can find that in our Pantheon. Now until next week, let’s give a little congratulatory clap to those who are listed in this article. Or not. Your choice.
If you would like to have your name forever enshrined in the vast expanse that is the internet, simply call your shot in the comment section below for the games of the first weekend of the playoffs. I will be reviewing the comments and keeping track as the season goes on. And who knows? Maybe you’ll even see your name in the leaderboard!
If you cannot call your shots on Thursday, as is custom, it is still possible to participate. As long as your called shots are posted to the comments of this article before the games start, I will include them.
