Nailed It! 2013 will return after week 17

Okay, I will!

Okay, I will!

Unfortunately, due to certain events this past week, I was unable to go through and record all of the called shots on last week’s article. Therefore, we will not find out exactly who Nailed it! for the games last week today. To make up for this, I will be posting everything from the last two weeks in next week’s article, along with the final regular season standings.

Don’t you just hate how a silly little event like Christmas can get in the way of what’s truly important?

What? You thought that perhaps some other event got in the way of me performing my duties? Well, about that…

Yes, I was also recovering this past week from the surgery that I had performed last Wednesday. I was released from the hospital last Friday, and have not been doing much other than resting since then. Yes, I was still able to help with Christmas, but in a much more limited capacity than I would have liked. I am still in the process of recovering, and experience some pain at the site of the incisions at times, but it is manageable with pain medication.

As for how everything went, here’s the short version. My doctor had to remove my entire kidney, called a complete nephrectomy, which I knew going in. Also, thankfully, the operation was able to be performed laparoscopically. That means that my recovery time should be much quicker than from an open incision.

However, what I didn’t officially know, until after the operation, is that the tumor was in fact cancer. After my kidney was removed, it was determined that it was stage II renal cell carcinoma.

Stage II means that it was over seven centimeters big (almost the same size as the kidney itself), but still encapsulated, or contained in some way, so that the cancer has more than likely not yet spread to other parts of the body.

There is no way of knowing how long the cancer had been growing inside of me, and I feel very lucky that it was found. My doctor says that I am now cancer free, and should be in the clear going forward as it was only stage II, but the journey is not over yet. I will still have follow-up appointments, and regular check-ups going forward, to make sure that the cancer does not return.

I just wanted to thank all of you for your kind words, and expressions of support toward me once I found out the news at the end of November. I was doing my best to try and remain strong, but was failing miserably. So to hear those words from all of you guys, and other sources as well, really helped me a lot. Thank you, truly.

So, right now I am a cancer survivor (never thought I would ever have to call myself that), and all that is left is some pain and continued recovery.

But I have obligations to this site that I need to perform. Self-imposed obligations, to be sure, but obligations nonetheless.

With that said, I decided to put up this article so that you would still have a place to call your shots for the final week of the regular season. (Yes, it was also an easy way to update everyone on my current condition, but that’s not as important as making the Pantheon, damn it!)

Now on to the games. I ask that you please use the list below to call your shots in the comments. Simply copy and paste it to the comments, and add your predicted scores after the team names. (Substitute scores for the XX and YY.)

Here is this week’s slate of games:

  • Carolina Panthers XX @ Atlanta Falcons YY
  • Detroit Lions XX @ Minnesota Vikings YY
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers XX @ New Orleans Saints YY
  • Green Bay Packers XX @ Chicago Bears YY

Thank you again for your support and understanding through all of this. And don’t forget to call your shot in the comments! Please make sure to have them in before the games start this Sunday, or they will not be included in next week’s article.

Would this be the third season in a row that the packers ruined the Bears playoff chances in week 17?

Lacy and Rodgers only played 287 snaps together this season.

He won't be 100%, but this HAS to be the fewest 8 man boxes that Lacy will have seen since the Bears first meeting and it will still be more than Rodgers has ever seen in his career.

I wish I had a D like Carolina's

so I take it no BBAO today?

I'm leaving to go spend the day with my wife in a little bit, but I do have an article ready to go. Nothing else in the queue.

Feel free to publish it around noon or 1pm if nothing else comes out before then

Cutler is 1-7 in his career against GB. His 16 INTs thrown against the Packers are his most against any NFL team.

How did they in 2011?

Packers beat the Lions with Flynn

I think Cutty got injured and the Lions outpaced them, despite GB beating the Lions in the last week.

After they get rid of the ice that melts under pressure.

Franklin has his place regardless, as he has a completely different body.  Its weather Starks shows enough to keep instead of Harris, I"m thinking.
