Nailed It! 2013: The final score streak continues in Week 13

Updated: December 5, 2013

Well, predicting games on Tuesday produced a little bit better results than last week. However, we were still a bit below our seasonal average. One good bit of news is that our prognosticators were able to keep the streak of correctly predicting the final score of a game!

That’s right. This is now the fourth week in a row in which we have had a correct final score prediction. That is amazing, and it makes the Pantheon smile.

Personally, I want to see how long this streak will go. Can we get it to the end of the season? I have faith in our prognosticators, and think we can do it.

...but I'm trying so hard!

…but I’m trying so hard!

Along with the correct final score prediction, there were an additional 18 names inducted into the Pantheon this week. As I said before, this is slightly below our average of 22, but still an improvement over last week’s 15. So we are heading back in the right direction.

Now on to the games. I ask that you please use the list below to call your shots in the comments. Simply copy and paste it to the comments, and add your predicted scores after the team names. (Substitute scores for the XX and YY.)

Here is this week’s slate of games:

  • Atlanta Falcons XX @ Green Bay Packers YY
  • Detroit Lions XX @ Philadelphia Eagles YY
  • Buffalo Bills XX @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers YY
  • Minnesota Vikings XX @ Baltimore Ravens YY
  • Carolina Panthers XX @ New Orleans Saints YY
  • Dallas Cowboys XX @ Chicago Bears YY

Seeing the correct final score prediction from last week has made me wonder if more people should try his approach.

Anyway, read on to find out just exactly who Nailed It!

Final score

These are the people who have (somehow) correctly predicted the final outcome of a game. The only shot that was called that could be considered more famous than these belongs to . Bow down before their wisdom! (And make sure you ask them for next week’s lotto numbers.)

  • Chicago @ Minnesota – 50CaliberFalcon correctly predicted that the Vikings would defeat the Bears 23-20!

Scoring differential

These are the ones who correctly predicted the margin by which the victors would best their competition. These are also the ones to consult if you want to bet the spread.

  • Chicago @ MinnesotaG & G, jmac3444, LambeauOrWrigley, Maized and Confused, and Staffords_Glove all correctly predicted a three-point victory for the Vikings.
  • Tampa Bay @ CarolinaEvilDonkey correctly predicted a 21-point victory for the Panthers.
  • Atlanta @ BuffaloBearsSaveLives, Donny_Donowitz33, G & G, reggiesnodeuce, and SDL all correctly predicted a three-point victory for the Falcons.

Total combined score

These are those who somehow managed to pick the correct total score but did not have any clue in how the teams would actually get there. Still, if you want to bet an over/under, you could do worse than consulting with them.

  • Green Bay @ DetroitDonny_Donowitz33 and MIBearFan both correctly predicted that both teams would combine to score 50 points.
  • Tampa Bay @ CarolinaBearsSaveLives and thenichels both correctly predicted that the teams would combine for 33 points.

Winning team’s score

  • Tampa Bay @ CarolinaChilderz and MKE both correctly predicted that the Panthers would win with a score of 27 points.
  • New Orleans @ Seattle The Real Cjammin correctly predicted that the Seahawks would score 34 points in a victory.

Against the grain

Oftentimes, our picks will be unanimous. However, there are those who will sometimes walk their own path.

  • None this week.

A big, hearty congratulations to 50CaliberFalcon! Your strategy of predicting a final score of 23-20 for each game resulted in 12th correct final score prediction on the season. With this prediction, you have entered into an elite group, and have definitely earned the right to brag to your peers this week!

It still continues to amaze me that we have gotten so many correct final score predictions! And we’re on a four week long streak!  Let’s keep it going!

I would also like to congratulate the 18 other people named above. You should feel proud that you are continuing to move up the leaderboard.  Before you know it, we might be seeing your name on there.

So, to all 19 people named above, feel free to take a bow. You all have earned the right to brag to your brethren, just not to 50CaliberFalcon.

Week 13 leaderboard

Now on to the leaderboard!

BearsSaveLives has reclaimed sole possession of first place, with two correct predictions this week. That brings his season total to 14 entries.

MIBearFan and LambeauOrWrigley are both right behind him. They each had one correct prediction this past week, bringing their season totals to 13 entries each.

The only other movement on the leaderboard was the addition of a new name, as neither jwoude23 (12 entries) nor rocketman6969 (10 entries) correctly called any shots this week.

However, Childerz called one correctly, which brought his season total to 10 entries.  That was good enough to push him onto the leaderboard for the first time, and into a tie for fifth place.  Way to go, Childerz!

Right behind Childerz and rocketman6969 sit three people with nine entries in the Pantheon, and three more with eight entries. All it takes is one exceptional week from any one of these people, and they could find themselves in the top five!

Now without further ado, here is the leaderboard through the twelve weeks of the season (in the case of a tie, the names are arranged alphabetically):

  1. BearsSaveLives – 14 entries
  2. LambeauOrWrigley – 13 entries
  3. MIBearFan – 13 entries
  4. jwoude23 – 12 entries
  5. Childerz – 10 entries
  6. rocketman6969 10 entries

If you would like to see what shots the leaders have correctly called, or perhaps to see how close you are to them, you can find that in our Pantheon. Now until next week, let’s give a little congratulatory clap to those who are listed in this article. Or not. Your choice.

If you would like to have your name forever enshrined in the vast expanse that is the internet, simply call your shot in the comment section below for the games of the NFC North and the NFC South. I will be reviewing the comments and keeping track as the season goes on. And who knows? Maybe you’ll even see your name in the leaderboard!

If you cannot call your shots on Thursday, as is custom, it is still possible to participate. As long as your called shots are posted to the comments of this article before the games start, I will include them.

Ensuring safety in the classroom . . . NAILED IT!

I keep forgetting to submit my picks.

You're one of the people with 9, so you're right there.

Rice. Vikings defense is hot garbage.

I lean Tate. But it is close.

Possibly. Then play the Saints ... which always has worked out well for y'all.

The Real CJammin

Possibly.  The 7-9 Seahawks made the playoffs a few years ago and beat some weak ass team I can't even remember.

Maized and Confused

You mentioned me in the article this week, so...

I didn't play him when they played the Bears.

BIG mistake.

 don't go, reggie!

First time I've been able to log on all day.  Livefyre was not working for me at all earlier today.

RB screens, etc. kill the Vikings, and have all year.

No. Panthers win that division. Better all-around team, imo.

I'll give you a second try with that.  English is preferred.
