By
Updated: November 26, 2013

As a division, the players of the NFC South were more productive in Week 11, but the managers in the NFC North did a better job of assembling their teams for the Water Cooler Sports NFC North on South Fantasy Football Challenge.

Week 11 of the Water Cooler Sports NFC North on South Fantasy Football Challenge is the first of eight weeks in which none of our teams has a bye.

The highest score the South could have gotten was 158 points, while the most the North could have gotten was 137.

Though the South had a higher possible score by 21 points, the North had the better lineups, beating the South average by 15 points: 61 points for the South, 76 for the North.

Summary

In the South, the quarterback situation was pretty hard to pick.

Though they had one great choice, the two most selected quarterbacks since the beginning of the contest were the ones who did the worst: Matt Ryan and Drew Brees, each at 14 points. Cam Newton was the high scorer this week with 30 points thanks to three touchdowns.  Mike Glennon (21 points) also put in a very respectable performance, scoring two touchdowns with no interceptions while completing all but three passes.

The North again had only one decent option: Matthew Stafford with 23 points, selected by 10 of the managers. Josh McCown also had 14 points.

The South had two great options for wide receivers — Vincent Jackson (17 points) and Harry Douglas (14 points) — and all but one manager selected at least one of them. Third-place finisher Brandon LeFell (nine points) was selected once, while Ted Ginn, Jr. (seven points) was selected twice. Thirteen other selections scored four or five points.

The North had two great options to chose from this week. Calvin Johnson (23 points), with what would be a career day for any other receiver, thanks to two TD’s and nearly 180 yards was selected by 10 teams.  The other quality choice this week, Jarius Wright (16 points) has yet to even be mentioned in this article, and subsequently went unselected.

The South had their best week at running back in quite a while, but once again the top three players were not expected to do well by our managers.  B

obby Rainey (28 points) was not expected to score more points than Doug Martin has all season; Antone Smith (11 points) was not expected to outscore the two players ahead of him on the depth chart; and Jed Collins (six points) has yet to be mentioned this season in this contest with Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas also ahead of him.

Four managers did manage to grab fourth-place Pierre Thomas. But 17 selections earned two or less points.

At running back, the North had two good selections and one decent selection.  Matt Forte (13 points) was taken six times and Joique Bell (12 points) was taken once, while Eddie Lacy (eight points) was taken eight times. Adrian Peterson, taken by five teams, only earned them four points.

The only two good performers at tight end for the South went unselected this week: Greg Olson (nine points) and Josh Hill (six points). Third-place Tony Gonzalez (four points) was taken three times, while Jimmy Graham (two points) was taken nine times.

The North again did horribly at tight end. First-place John Carlson (four points) was only taken once. Martellus Bennett (three points) was taken five times.

For kicker in the South, Brian Lindell (11 points) was taken once. Matt Bryant (eight points) was taken by all but two of the other 11 teams.

In the North, high scorer Robbie Gould (11 points) was taken four times. David Akers (nine points) was taken three times, Blair Walsh (eight points) was chosen three times, while Mason Crosby (seven points) was taken the other four times.

On defense, the South averaged 2.9 points per selection, while the North averaged 1.8 points.

Out of 36 selections, the South had just one selection from the top five scorers (Mason Foster, Dashon Goldson, Gerald McCoy, Robert Lester, Corey White), while only 13 selections earned them two or less points. Where they excelled was in the three- to five-point range, with 22 selections.

In the North, out of the top five scorers (David Bass, Tramon Williams, Jonathan Bostic, Julius Peppers, Brad Jones), again only once was a player chosen: Julius Peppers (seven points). While the North did well in the three- to four-point range, with 14 selections, they also had 15 goose eggs!

This week Childer’z Merry Band of Misfits had the high score in the North with 87 points, while Shane Tate had the high score of 81 points for the South.

Good luck to all!

One of my friends who is a GB fan accused Lions fans of being Bandwagoners.

I don't think she realizes how dumb she is for saying that.

I guess I would like Detroit to win tomorrow. I would rather be a game behind Detroit then to be even with the Pack, with Rodgers coming back.

I bet the Lions have more bandwagon fans than the Jags.

Worst fucking bandwagon ever... that'd be like being a haunted hay ride for 20 years straight getting teased by the end of it only to get pulled down the path of horror again repeatedly

It actually wasn't dumb a couple years ago. I knew a few "new" detroit fans that appeared in the past 2-3 years.
