Good morning, folks! Welcome to the Water Cooler Sports Black, Blue, and Ornery, your source for NFC North News on this Thursday, October 24th, 2013.

Quote of the day:

The government, which was designed for the people, has got into the hands of the bosses and their employers, the special interests. An invisible empire has been set up above the forms of democracy.

And on this day in history:

  • 1863 - U.S. President Lincoln declared that the last Thursday of November would be recognized as Thanksgiving Day. And we Americans have been fattening ourselves up ever since.
  • 1974 – Frank Robinson took over the management position of the Cleveland Indians baseball team. He was the first black manager in major league baseball. Cleveland . . . rocks?
  • 1988 – The space shuttle Discovery landed safely after its four-day mission. It was the first American shuttle mission since the Challenger disaster. How scared were those astronauts?!

We also have some great birthdays to celebrate today!

  • Wayne Rooney (28) - As a forward for Premier League club Manchester United, he became the fourth-highest goal-scorer of all time.
  • Y. A. Tittle (87) - All-Pro quarterback who spent 17 years in San Francisco and New York.
  • Shenae Grimes (24) - Canadian television actress who is known to audiences as Annie Wilson in the recent 90210 television series remake.

Just wondering, what does the credit company do in a case like Tamba's receipt?  He signed for a total that was $1000 above the price of the service (basically excluded the "included" gratuity line).  I think the resteraunt can only claim the total line, since it was above their required charges, but not sure.  Anyone know the answer to that?

New reports says things such as cheese, cream, and red meat, which have been demonized for causing high cholesterol, are not as bad as previously thought. In fact, the reduction or removal of these items from our diets has actually increased our cardiovascular risks.

Mike McCarthy is also an acceptable answer.

OIC, the restaurant can only claim what is on the total.  It is up to the person who collects said receipt to check that it is correct.

I still love the Blind Date Ho Down.

I went on a blind date, it was just the other night

Just the kind of girl that shouldn't be in the light

Not that attractive, really kind of bland

But hey she beat the hell out of using my right hand.

Yes, but how much?  that is the point.  Do they charge the grand total he signed for, or do they charge above that since he added $1K to the included tip?

well i think that means included in the total--I have to imagine that with an 1800-some dollar bill his party exceeded the minimum number of people beyond which they do an auto-gratuity

You sure?  It did say "+ Included gratuity"...
