The New Orleans Saints remained undefeated this week with a  38-17 win over the visiting Miami Dolphins (3-1) on Monday Night Football.

Quarterback Drew Brees lit up the Dolphin defense all game and the defense kept Miami grounded, as for the second week in a row, the Saints overwhelmed their opponent.

Quick start

Their opening drive, which went 82 yards in six plays, was highlighted by a 48-yard catch and run by Darren Sproles and capped off with a five-yard touchdown run by Sproles.

Miami tried to answer and was driving down the field with ease, until a stop on third down by rookie nose tackle John Jenkins forced Miami to settle for three.

Midway through the second quarter, linebacker Curtis Lofton forced quarterback Ryan Tannehill to fumble, and the Saints recovered. Brees hooked up with tight end Jimmy Graham for a touchdown on a 27-yard pass between two Miami defenders.

Miami promptly responded with a Lamar Miller touchdown run to pull within four. On the third play of their next drive, with a chance to take the lead, Tannehill threw a quick slant that was picked off by cornerback Jabari Greer. New Orleans converted the turnover into a score on a 13-yd pass pass to Sproles.

Pulling ahead

Miami opened the second half with a quick three-and-out.

New Orleans followed up with an eight-play, 59-yard drive that ended in a touchdown pass to tight end Ben Watson. After yet another Dolphins three-and-out, Brees connected with tight end Jimmy Graham on a 43-yard scoring strike.

A three-yard touchdown pass to tight end Charles Clay gave Miami slim hope to start the fourth quarter, but New Orleans scored yet again on a Garrett Hartley field goal to go up 38-17.

Any hope the Dolphins might have had was quenched on the ensuing drive, as Tannehill was picked off by cornerback Chris Carr. Sproles broke free and got inside the five-yard line but fumbled the ball back to Miami.

Nevertheless, the night ended a few plays later as Tannehill was picked off yet again, this time by linebacker Will Herring, to seal the Saints’ victory.

Fast Facts:

Jimmy Graham continued to dominate opposing defenses.

New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham continued to dominate opposing defenses.

  • Drew Brees won his ninth straight Monday Night Football game.
  • He also tied his own NFL record of nine consecutive 300-yard games.
  • He also tied his own NFL record of 10 consecutive games with at least 25 completions.
  • His 413 yards marked the 10th time in his career that he passed the 400-yard mark, second most all time to Dan Marino’s 13. All 10 of those games have been since he joined the Saints in 2006. In that time span, no one has had more 400-yard games. The next closest is five, a mark held by several quarterbacks.
  • Brees’ 2013 season has started eerily similar to his record-breaking 2011 year. Through four games:
    • 2013: 1434 yards, 10 touchdowns, four interceptions
    • 2011: 1410 yards, 10 touchdowns, four interceptions
  • Tight end Jimmy Graham has accumulated 23 receptions for 413 yards and five touchdowns the last three weeks. On the year he has 27 receptions, 458 yards (second in the league to Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones), and six touchdowns (tied for league most with Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker).
  • The Saints defense registered four sacks and forced four turnovers.
  • Mike Wallace finished with three receptions on seven targets for 24 yards on seven targets. It’s safe to say Keenan Lewis won this round.

If the Panthers can get around 7-8 sacks on Palmer with that shaky Oline and them starting a rookie in that game we should win easily, if not and we go into the 4th in a close game....then we lose

We've been lucky the past few years that the injury bug hasn't bit us...now we have so many damn injuries, I can't wait til bye week.

Every Falcons fan from here on out is gonna pick the Saints to lose until it does happen. Then some will be like TOLD YOU SO! haha.

Well that's what's bound to happen when you pick a team to lose every week.

Honestly...the saints didn't look great until they played the phins...but they are 4-0 and we are 3 games back.  That's how it goes.

Saints have to keep from turning the ball over in bad weather. If they can do that I think they can out do Chicago's offense.

Falcons just have to go back to basics. They SHOULD beat the NYJ easily. If they just play like the have the past few years, they should win.
