Postseason Pick’em Contest: Pro Bowl Round official picks

By
Updated: January 27, 2013

Players from across the NFL will be getting leied in Honolulu, Hawaii at the 2012 Pro Bowl.

Final Four

And so we come to the quirkiest, most unpredictable round of our Water Cooler Sports Postseason Pick’em Contest. In our effort to get as many WCSN members as possible involved, we started out with 24 entrants, which forced us to add a fifth round to weed out our contestants down to the final two for the Super Bowl. So as silly as it might sound, we are picking the Pro Bowl.

In a sense, no one will be eliminated this week, as the losers in this round will battle it out in our Bronze Match for third place. All we are deciding this week is who competes for the championship and who must settle for the consolation.

There is a fun bit of symmetry in the match-ups this week, as both pit a Chicago Bears fan against a Minnesota Vikings fan. It will be interesting to see if our final rounds feature comrade-on-comrade action, or it will come down to bitter rivals duke it out for the glory.

It won’t be easy for our WCSN Postseason Pick’em contestants to predict what will happen in an otherwise meaningless exhibition game.

Tight contest

Our prognosticators were unanimous in picking the NFC over the AFC, and three of the four predicted Vikings running back Adrian Peterson to take home the Pro Bowl MVP trophy, so it will come down to who does a more accurate job projecting the final scores. It’s going to be an especially tight race between jwoud23 and Childerz, whose tiebreakers vary by only one point. There is a little more room for variance between dalaislama and BearsSaveLives, who have a 17-point spread in their predictions.

Perhaps the most peculiar aspect of this week’s contest is that Childerz predicted the two squads to combine for 86 points, yet his tiebreaker prediction is 92 points. It appears he is doing his best to hedge his bets. It wouldn’t be the first time that has happened in this contest, but with things being as tight as they are this week, it’s especially noticeable.

I wish all of our contestants the best of luck. It’s taken a lot of skill and a certain measure of luck to get this far, but it will take a whole lot of luck to advance past this round, more than any other. Have fun this weekend, gentlemen. You deserve it!

I think I lost based on combined score. Lame sausage. Fuck you, Pro Bowl.

Blackhawks now 6-0.  Hot damn.

Best start in franchise history.

If I do manage to pull out a win next week, I was hoping that I could get credit for WCSN merchandise.  The gift card from the packers pro shop is only going to result in a further depletion of the o zone layer

Childerz...

Woow Kyle Rudolph Pro Bowl MVP!!! Now you guys know why I have talked him up all year the dude is a stud

BearsSaveLives came pretty damn close to nailing the AFC score.

So unless Drew Brees is selected as the MVP, it looks like our Super Bowl round will be

  • Championship: dalaislama (1) vs. jwoude73 (7)
  • Bronze match: Childerz (11) vs. BearsSaveLives (13)

The cream seems to be rising to the top.

And an interception keeps the total points scored under 100!

ouch.  having a nephew who suffocated in his sleep at the age of 18 months and my cousins son who did of spinal meningitis at the age of 4 this sucks and hopefully they have the support system to make it through this incredibly horrible time.

they didn't want him to play in the reindeer games but he went against all odds and showed everyone how fantastic he really was.

If I win, I'm giving the Packers gift card to Rourke as a thanks for all the stuff he does here.  I don't need any Packers shit.

or i could send a superbowl commemorative shirt down to africa, but then the recipient would not even have a militia to back him up

That he is! And you are still in the tournament, my friend. Good luck in the Bronze Match. Think you can take down BSL?

I am frankly surprised that 62 points is the record. I thought we've seen other games in the 60s before.

KFAN and I think Pioneer Press were building it up, and we hoped- but I do remember hearing MN eliminated as a decision before NOLA was picked

You know what they say . . . always trust your first instinct. How do you feel about the Bronze Match?

Rourke

Considering you had to survive five rounds (four if you take into consideration the first-round bye), I think that is pretty impressive. I admit that there was a great deal of luck involved, considering we gave points for scores, etc., and frankly, a lot of games were decided by tiebreakers, but still, that is a sustained string of success.

and i'm back to the arrogance of calling myself natradamus until I'm dethroned

the points that I took.  i wanted to switch it, but thought that would be a bitch move.   NFC at 55?  I figured the offense would try more in the game- but 97 points is fucking ridiculous.  I should not have been so close as to how shitty that game was

Rourke

In what way did you get lucky this week?

natradamus
natradamus moderator

that I got lucky as hell this week but if I pull out a 'W' next it will somehow give a credential to any B.S. I spit from  now on, so I am pretty happy right now
